Profile

Alex Wolf draws on his small-town Midwestern values while working with high net worth individuals, business owners, and nonprofit entities as they seek to build and preserve a legacy. Alex provides sophisticated, yet practical legal advice in a manner that is easy to understand and implement.

By investing the time to understand his clients’ circumstances and goals, he delivers planning that is uniquely tailored to his client’s needs and objectives. Ultimately, he is determined to solve his client’s estate, business and tax planning needs so that they are free to focus on what matters most to them.

Alex’s practice focuses extensively on estate planning and estate administration, business succession planning, and organizational/tax planning for closely-held businesses and nonprofit entities. Some specific areas of focus include:

  • Sophisticated wealth transfer techniques intended to help minimize the impact of gift, estate and generation-skipping taxes, including dynasty trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, and charitable lead/remainder trusts, as well as leveraged sales and pre-liquidity event planning
  • Basic estate planning, including wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney and advance directives, as well as assistance with asset titling and beneficiary designations
  • Post-death administration (probate and trust administrations), including the preparation of inheritance and estate tax returns
  • Asset protection planning and premarital planning
  • Advising entrepreneurs and business owners regarding the fundamental legal concepts relevant to structuring and operating their business in a manner that will help them to achieve their personal and professional goals
  • Business continuity planning intended to minimize the negative impact that an unexpected death or other unfortunate development might have on a business’s ongoing viability
  • Business exit planning for business owners looking for a way to orderly exit their business in a financially secure manner while preserving the business for the next generation of owners and employees
  • Serving as outside general counsel to many public charities and private foundations, which includes providing advice related to formation, governance and compliance with tax-exempt rules and regulations
