He represents private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, venture capital funds, family offices, individual investors, and strategic buyers in complex matters tied to growth and investment. He takes the time to understand each client’s industry, deal strategy, and business objectives, allowing him to serve as a creative and strategic partner throughout the transaction.
Derek’s experience across a range of industries and transaction types gives him a practical understanding of the priorities of management teams, investors, and established businesses. He is known for leading complex transactions with organization and focus, while keeping immediate workstreams moving and maintaining sight of clients’ broader strategic and economic goals.
A significant portion of Derek’s practice involves advising private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on platform investments and growth-through-acquisition strategies. He has substantial experience structuring, negotiating, and leading bolt-on, tuck-in, and roll-up transactions following initial platform investments, helping clients execute high-volume acquisition programs across fragmented industries and position themselves for eventual exits and other liquidity events.
